Orthotics

The combination of 26 bones, 33 joints , 112 ligaments and a network of tendons, nerves and blood vessels all work together to establish the balance, support and coordination involved in day to day standing, walking or running.

Foot orthotics are custom made inserts or footbeds fitted into a shoe. Orthotics provide support for feet by redistributing ground reaction forces as well as realigning foot joints while standing, walking or running. Most foot imbalances are hereditary in nature and noticed when standing, walking or running.

Custom made foot orthotics are used by everybody from athletes to children, adults and elderly to accommodate biomechanical imbalances and a variety of soft tissue inflammatory conditions such as heel pain, knee pain, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, calluses, tendonitis, flat feet, in toeing, out toeing as well as for the prevention of foot ulcers in the at-risk-diabetic foot.

Biomechanical examination, stance and gait analysis performed in our office is the first step to determining if you are a good candidate for custom made foot orthotics.
